As someone who is deeply connected to Leipzig, Otto Herz established his living and working space in the Alte Handelsschule in Leipzig-Plagwitz. The vast rooms serve as an archive of his long-standing work as an educational reformer and his many contributions in the fields of education, politics and academia, and they are used as seminar rooms for a wide spectrum of workshops to this day. Otto Herz approached me to document everything before the spaces would become repurposed over time – with the directive to bring my own gaze to portraying the countless objects that had been with him throughout his life. The result is the portrait of a person via objects close to his heart, culminating in a multi-facetted depiction of Otto Herz.
